Lighting the Way x

I love this blog post because the images and accessories have a Noir Whimsy feel to them. Amazing images.

In my dreams there’s an Abigail Ahern chandelier hanging over my dining room table.  Scrap that – we’re talking dreams..they’ll be two! (and a reinforced ceiling) This one has my heart – it’s made from tiny squares of porcelain that would gently glow on a dark winters night. But at £15,050 a light (the extra £50 tickles my sensibilities) it remains firmly on the once-I’ve-won-the-lottery-lust-list…

There’s also this one (at a mere £2,750) which makes me want to break open the kid’s air-drying clay and get creative.  The truth is Abigail’s whole aesthetic makes me want to squeal..the dark, brooding colours with the unexpected pops of colour, the quirky touches and an underlining sense of humour that spontaneously make me smile with pure pleasure.

So it’s rather wonderful that she’s teamed up with Debenhams to design a range especially for them…

Battle of the Styles: Bohemian versus Whimsical Living Rooms

It is *finally* raining in Northern California, I’m house bound, so it’s time for a little décor roundup. This week’s battle of styles is a rematch between bohemian and whimsical, only this time we take a peek at various living rooms. What’s your favorite?

Bohemian:

Modern day Boho Chic. I’m a huge fan of extra seating in the form of floor pillows. A tell tale sign of Bohemian is lots of different patterned pillows. White walls allow the accessories to pop. Image courtesy of http://www.pinterest.com/pin/447686019178966335/.

My bohemian couch with my little bohemian daughter.

Love a turquoise wall…bohemian spread over the couch with a collection of photos in different frames, exquisite and wild. Image courtesy of http://www.lisasherryinterieurs.com/.

Whimsical:

Whimsy color scheme – love the quote wall and the quilt over the white couch. Image courtesy of Copyright © Little Miss Momma, from http://www.littlemissmomma.com.

The playful dog pillows compliment the dark slate gray walls…love the playful elements in concert with the sophisticated furniture pieces. Image courtesy of Village at http://www.pinterest.com/pin/236720524136222668/.

My idea of whimsical…different patterns…the touches of whimsy are throughout this room, right down to the curly lamp. Image courtesy of interiormagz.com, also on http://www.pinterest.com/pin/264445809339842749/.

Love the picture of the word “Love.” The pops of color against the pale blue is classic whimsy. Gorgeous image from http://brittanickel.tumblr.com/post/35747878336.

The accessories make the whimsy statement – a squirrel porcelain statue, some pops of turquoise and a repurposed end table – golden! Image courtesy of http://thehappyhousie.com/?p=4607.

Battle of the Styles: Whimsical versus Bohemian

I have two home décor styles loves – bohemian and whimsical.  I love the combination of both styles, but there are beautiful elements to both, and one may be the clear winner over the other – you decide. Images courtesy of my curation visit to Pinterest.com.

This week’s battle takes place in the bedroom:

Whimsical:

This look really embodies a modern take on the whimsical look.

The chartreus birds on the pillow is definitely whimsical. The colors is what gives this room a true whimsy vibe.

Pink acts as the neutral in this whimsical room. I love the mix of styles – mid-century modern nightstand with a pink, ornate bed is a beautiful contrast of styles and what makes a room whimsy.

Love the headboard and the cow hide rug.

Bohemian:

The dark navy walls envelops a person and an unmade bed invites long naps and cuddling.

Moody purples, various shapes and textures and a tuft velvet headboard updates the boho look.

I love the Eastern touches and the beautiful contrast of red and green. The dark lacquered four poster bed really anchors the colors in a modern way.

Real deal bohemian…what my dream Santa Cruz beach cabin would look like. The layers of rugs and textiles is what makes this look truly bohemian. And the Native American headdress and dream catchers is also a nice touch.

Modern Boho Whimsy

The below pictures, curated on Pinterest.com are lush and playful. More examples of the use of celosia orange in home decor. Bless the designers and decorators of each of these magical rooms:

Gorgeous! Love the rug!
