10 Life Enriching Things To Do When It’s Cold Outside
Β Merry Christmas Folks! I hope you are having a lovely time with friends and family, but be sure to take time out for yourself, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day through the holiday season. When you’re refreshed, you bring your whole self to the party! This blog post is a revisit from last December and I thought it was timely as many of us are taking time off for the holidays. Enjoy and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Cold weather or tending to sick, sleeping children definitely keeps many of us in doors. When we find ourselves bound to the house, whether to stay warm or to care for ourselves or others, we can use the time productively. Here’s a list of ten life enriching things to do while stuck in doors.
1. Create an acknowledgement/gratitude journal. This type of journal is different than one to capture all your thoughts and emotions from day to day (although I think that’s a good reason to journal too). This journal is simply to acknowledge the specific things you did in a day and what you are grateful for. In time, you will have a collection of acknowledgements about your life and will have physical evidence of all that you do and receive.
2. Create a Manifestation journal. This is different from an acknowledgement/gratitude journal because it is a chronicle of the things you wish to bring into your life in the near and far future. It will feel amazing to see the things you scribed in your manifestation journal come to fruition in your acknowledgement/gratitude journal. Some things I have manifested was my daughter, my degree, my vehicle, and a better job, just to name a few.
3. Create a Vision Statement for your life. A paragraph detailing your vision for yourself is an awesome way to culminate all that you want represented in your life. It is a great reference to look at each day in your cubicle wall or on your bathroom mirror. Companies have vision statements, why not the little peoples too?
4. Create/work on your vision board. I have a well loved, ratty vision board that essentially has everything I wanted to manifest come about and now need to make time to create a new one. A vision board is great for the visual folks who need to see images to conjure up good feelings of what they want to have or continue to have in their lives. I grabbed images from the internet, magazines and even fortune cookie notes. It is a fun project to do with the kids, too.
5. Surf the web with purpose. Surfing the web sometimes gets a bad wrap as a time zap. I personally feel we are gaining information to store for later when we are perusing the net. Now that I am blogging, every opportunity to surf is a possibility for a new subject to write about. When you’re surfing the net, think about something from your manifestation journal you want to do a little more research about. Perhaps it’s a trip to Brazil. Or, an article on the history of tithing. Whatever it is, surf with a purpose to make the computer time count.
6. Guided meditation. I am a huge fan of guided meditation because it helps to guide the mind and body into a quiet state. Guided meditation reduces stress and for those of us who are spiritual, it brings us closer to our Higher Self or God. Here is a link to UCLA Health’s website with free quick, guided mediation MP3s http://marc.ucla.edu/body.cfm?id=22. If you’ve never meditated, having a guide to help you quiet your thoughts is super helpful. Don’t feel like you have to start out doing 30 minute sessions – start with five minutes and work your way up.
7. Listen to Podcasts. Just as I’m a journal junkie, I am also a little strung out on Podcasts. I listen to spiritual leaders and life coaches for daily inspiration. Some podcasts to check out: Everyday Attraction with Rae Zander; Think, Believe and Manifest Show with Constance Arnold; Receive Your Life with Janice Campbell; The Matt and Phil Show; Flowdreaming with Summer McStravick. For the creative writers, check out Writers on Writing.
8. Exercise. Get some second hand yoga or fitness videos, dance, or if you have room in your family room, get a small bike or elliptical machine and work up a sweat while you watch television. Whatever you do, get moving. Obviously, if you have a sick child or you’re sick yourself, this is not really a feasible option, so that’s why it’s towards the bottom of the list.
9. Daydream. Now, this is something you can do while your child sleeps or if you’re bedridden. Allow your mind to wonder. It feels so delicious to dip into a daydream, and almost a letdown when it’s interrupted. Here is how Wikipedia defines daydreaming: Daydreaming is a short-term detachment from one’s immediate surroundings, during which a person’s contact with reality is blurred and partially substituted by a visionary fantasy, especially one of happy, pleasant thoughts, hopes or ambitions, imagined as coming to pass, and experienced while awake. Your mind needs a break, why not daydream?
10. Sleep. This will be a given if you’re sick. Even if there’s no sickness in your house, a nap or a night’s rest is what your mind and body needs to recharge. For many of us, sleep is a depleted commodity and naps are great for storing a little day’s energy. On days when I’ve had a hard time or had to leave work early, I go straight to my couch and take a nap. I usually wake up feeling a lot better about a situation or I may even dream up a solution to a problem. Sleep is medicine.
What are some ways you pass the time on cold or rainy days? And, what are some ways you enrich your life for free?

I am a self-professed Pinterest junkie and I don’t see rehab for my addiction anytime soon. There are so many beautiful words and images out in the world, it’s great to have them right at my finger tips!
The above pins struck a cord with me because that’s where I am in my journey – simplifying and getting back to basics in life. It has been a bumpy, yet delightful time for me as I downsized homes, vehicles, and redefining a budget that doesn’t involve excess and overspending. I toiled with yard sales, Craigslist postings, hawking items to co-workers – chiseling away all the extras and unused items in my life. How liberating it was to sell what needed to be sold and to share with others what no longer was useful for me – my soon to be trash became others’ treasure.
I have wobbly, Bambi legs as I gather my new life and move about my new space – but it’s delicious to learn a new way of being. I am embarking on living an intentional life, deliberately creating a beautiful and loving space around me.
What’s inspiring you this week on Pinterest or in the great, wide world?

Sometimes inspiration and Law of Attraction education comes from the most unlikeliness of sources, such as Deep House Music. My earliest nudges into the divinity that is Deliberate Creation came from the music I listened to in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Shout outs goΒ to two sublime deep house music albums that has been released this autumn –Β Miguel Migs, Dim Division andΒ Blue Six’s Signs & Wonders. My fellow house heads know we’ve come home, spiritually, physically, and sensually when we’ve had a listen to these funky house base lines and melody on point…
Blue Six’sΒ Beautiful TomorrowΒ and Miguel Migs Nude Temple 1 changed my life. I never listened to music the same way again after listening to these two albums in 2002. I have an active, imaginativeΒ mind, and I preferred to meditate to something more rapturous than tranquil. I found I could also dance all night to this music – trances and all.
Deep house music scratches a deepΒ itch in the mind. The beats equally make you want to dance all nightΒ or chill while sippingΒ onΒ a chilled cocktail, in the clutches of a steamy, endlessΒ summer night.Β The rhythmic beat is meditative, the lyrics were mine to experience and relate to, and it was a music that felt like all my own. It’s not until you go to a show that one of these awesome producers DJ at, that you realize it’s not just you that’s in love with this music. These latest albums remind me why I am still in love with deep, soulful house music.

Consciousness and Your Beliefs
Endless Divine Bliss, Opens The Heart and the Doorways within the perceived locked spaces, of Consciousness, deep within you.Β Those are those places, those spaces, that you know are there, but seem to not be able to fully access.Β Β Or you access them, then they slip away, and you forget. Falling ever deeper into the patterns of the mind, that tell you, this is the way it is.
The thoughts of the Mind are Transcended when you access the doorways and entry points of Consciousness to limitless Being.
The funny part about the mind and its ability to create your reality, is that you must be invested enough in the thoughts of the mind, to sustain the Β βBeliefsβ that they are Real. Let me give you an example or two.
So you wake up in the morning and you had an amazing sleep. You feel excited, you feel your Heart, you knowβ¦

Law of Attraction at Work: Musu’s Season of Manifesting a New Job

The blog, Abundant Life Initiative was on brief hiatus, but I was still initiating an abundant life – more on that in future blogs. I’m backΒ and I haveΒ brought alongΒ some friendsΒ who areΒ initiating their own abundant lives.
Today, Musa Bangura shares aΒ personal story onΒ manifesting a new job – Law of Attraction in theoryΒ into practice. Check out Musu’s own blog at New3Creation Writing –Β http://new3creationservices.wordpress.com/, New3Creation Wellness –Β http://new3creation.blogspot.com/Β and Twitter: @new3Creation. Thank you very much Musu for your contribution to AbundantLifeInitiative.
My Experience with the Law of Attraction
March 10th, the day I made a decision. It was another turn in this journey of life. I was tired and frustrated with my present situation as far as my career went. It felt like I was stuck beneath a glass ceiling where I could see the greener pastures but just couldnβt breakthrough to get through to them. My upbringing taught me the principles of Christianity and how I had to pray and have faith for anything I wanted. Well, life has taught me it doesnβt exactly work that way. The concept of praying and waiting was wrong and there was more to it than that. I remembered a previous conversation I had with someone about the Law of Attraction and decided to look it up and research it. The concept of creative power and placement in the universe just struck me and I decided to try it for myself. I had reached a point when I was determined to make changes, especially if it meant going beyond my comfort zone.
So on this day in March, I grabbed a notebook and pen to make a list (Iβm a list person). But I didnβt simply write down what I wished. I wrote down what was going to happen. You see, I realized that it was going to take more than wishingβ¦I had to tap into a place of knowing. I will explain. I wanted/needed a better job ASAP. I was working hard and doing my best to stand out and hopefully get recognized for it, but that didnβt get me anywhere. I had been looking for a promotion for years, but it felt like I was going around in circles, just getting minimal pay raises on an annual basis. I had been on interviews and impressed recruiters, but there was always someone who would beat me at the very end of the process. So I was at a point where I would no longer wish, because I knew what I wanted, which was to be promoted. I had worked for it, I knew my worth and I knew what was supposed to happen for me. Thatβs what rejection and disappointment did to me β they didnβt consume me. They had indeed built me up. Now I was at a point where I could write down βI have my promotionβ on the top of my list. Once I saw it on paper, I began to ingrain it in my mind to the point where I would visualize myself sitting in a new office at a new job. I did it every day as I continued to apply and go on interviews. Then in the second week of April, I got a phone call for an interview. I jumped at the opportunity to go for it, with the excitement of finally getting the job offer I wanted. The interview went well and it wouldβve been a move up for me, but I wasnβt fully satisfied. The salary was definitely more, but not the actual increase I envisioned. I continued to envision β seeing myself in the job that I actually wanted.
May 15th β there was another job interview lined up for me. By this time, my mindset had started to change. There was a new sense of confidence because I was taking time out of each day to see myself in the new place of promotion. It became easier to block out the negativity I was facing in my present situation. I knew what I wanted to experience and I was preparing myself just for that. The interview went well but I still had some inner battles to fight. This job was ideal; the pay, exposure and office set up were everything I was looking for. Yes, they were impressed with my experience and knowledge, but would they hire me? I had to consistently fight the self-doubt and fear and remind myself of where I was headed. This was the hardest part, what I like to call βthe in-betweenβ where youβre in the middle of the beginning and end point of a goal youβre reaching.
May 23rd β I received a phone call for a job offer. I was excited, but not thrilled because it wasnβt the job I was actually aiming for. It was the job with the lower pay. I hadnβt heard from the actual job that I wanted but was determined to land that one. So even though I accepted the job offer, my thoughts were still towards the position I actually wanted. I hadnβt heard back from them but I still continued to meditate on where I was headed. As far as I was concerned, I was in my actual promotion. As the next couple of weeks passed, the company that gave me the job offer was ready to give me a start date. I wasnβt ready to give them one. I kept stalling them and was very slow to return their calls. At some point, I finally called them and declined the offer even though I hadnβt heard back from the preferred job yet. Simply put, I wanted that second job and would not rest until I heard back from them.
June 4th β I received a phone call that confirmed everything for me. I was offered a job at the company that had everything on my wish list. I was elated that it finally happened, especially since I knew I had worked towards it. The Law of Attraction definitely came into play and worked for me. This experience gave me a new sense of myself and capabilities. I learned a beautiful feature of my mind that I wasnβt aware of before and it felt great.
So why did it work? Why did the job finally come through for me? There were several things going on as I used the Law of Attraction to make things work:
- I wrote it down. Writing is powerful in many ways. Writing down a particular goal can put it in motion because youβre seeing it on paper which puts your mind to work.
- I was aware of what I was creating. A lot of the times we want things, but arenβt aware of whatβs involved with what we want. With this promotion, I knew there were higher standards and more responsibilities so I had to prepare myself for that. Now that itβs here the transition has been smooth and successful.
- With meditation, I connected with the creation and made it a part of my mind and soul. I did this every day, sometimes twice a day especially before I went to bed. I wanted that vision to be the last thing on my mind before going to sleep.
- I welcomed the fear. Yes, I didnβt fight the fear because I learned that it was normal. Fear is just like any other emotion and thereβs nothing wrong with experiencing it. I just made sure I didnβt feed it and let it control me or my situation.
If youβre looking to apply the Law of Attraction to an area of your life, be sure to have an awareness of yourself and clearly define what you want. I couldβve settled for the first job, but it wasnβt what I saw while meditation. I made the goal very clear and didnβt settle for anything else. The same can happen for you β or even better.

Is This Thought Serving Me?

Ask yourself, especially when you find yourself in a negative thought pattern, “Is this thought serving me?” If your thought is not beneficial and seems to hold you in aΒ space of negativity, release it, and if you can’t let go, replace it with a new, positive thought.

Freedom Consciousness: Part Six – Freedom to Choose a New Thought

In looking at the above picture, we could choose to see a lonely, desolate place for a church. Some wouldΒ choose notΒ to driveΒ on that tiny, dirt road. Others may see a beautiful place to get away, findingΒ this lone church a sanctuary. It all comes down to choice. How are you going to choose to feel in the moment before the drive up?
Let’s look at some potentially stressful life experiences and see what your first reaction would be and then what could we choose to feel about that situation.
- I got passed over for yet another promotion! WhyΒ are my talents and abilities always overlooked?
- I ran up my credit cards again, and this time, I don’t seeΒ a way out of paying them off.
- I almost wished IΒ hadn’t gone toΒ college. I’ve racked up this student loan debt and can’t find nothing but menial jobs that barely covers my living expenses.
- I wished I went to college, maybe I would have had a better job than the one IΒ have now.
- I think my husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating on me. Now what?
- My kids are growing up and don’t need me as much. Where does that leave me?
- I can never seem to make enough to make ends meet. I have aΒ “good” job, but I’m not making enough to cover all my expenses.
- My parents/friends/lovers are consideringΒ a move to a faraway place. Where does that leave me?
- There’s so much violence, conflict and suffering in the world. What am I supposed to do about it? How can I pursue happiness when others are suffering?
- I was just diagnosed with _________, now what?
What’s your first reaction to each of the aboveΒ scenarios? Look at them again with a new perspective. What is an alternative, uplifting alternative feeling/expression you could choose to feel in each situation?
How you traverse the mountains of change reveals how you cope with situations that move you out of your comfort zone. Here are some questions toΒ ask yourself:
- When you reflect on your past choices and paths traveled, what is your self talk saying aboutΒ youΒ after you’ve made those choices? Do you feel like you had choices in the matters that concerned you? If not, who held the power of choice in your life? Did that perceived power shift take anything away from your ability to choose?
There is no right or wrong answer – it’s just important to take a look at your choice styles. Let’s pick a few of the above situations and see if we can choose to see the blessing in each ofΒ them.
SituationΒ #1: TheΒ persistentΒ promotion passover on face value appears like it’s theΒ worstΒ careerΒ situation to find yourself in. One could resign themselves to feeling unwanted and unsupported, which in turn generates behaviors in yourself and those around you that may result in undesirable changes, such as being fired. The other choice you have is choose to say, “The Universe recognizes the last position I tried to promote to may not be exactly what I want or need. God knows my true desire. And, whoever receives thisΒ promotion will have to work long hours to get the work done versus my comfortable forty hour work week.Β My life right as it is now cannot support a sixty hour work week – I have a new baby who requires more of me than I am able to give to a demanding career right now. I love my baby and the balance I have right now is what works for me. I wanted my family more than I ever wanted this job. God will show me the best position when it’s time and I’m ready to receive it.” See how a perception change can transform a situation right before your eyes? And, that same paradigm shift is what it will take to bring forth that dream job you want – not the ego driven dream job that really fits someone else’s life. The ego driven job search rarely produces jobs aligned to who we are and what we like to do.
Situation #2: TheΒ I am in over my head with debt scenario. You could choose to feel defeated, ashamed you can’t better manage your debt or spending, and you begin to stress over how you can barely pay the minimum payments. Another choice is to first forgive and have compassion for yourself for being in debt. Recognize you made choices to incur the debt, so now it’s time to reclaim your power toΒ bring balance in your life. Perhaps you’ve decided to take on each credit card and negotiate what’s owed to them. Or, you could consider bankruptcy to start anew. Or, you could elect to get a second job for the sole purpose of paying bills. You could create a budget. There are so many divinely led steps you could take, instead of choosing to remain in fear or denial.
Situation #3: My partner, the cheater. One can lose a bit of their self-worth with scenarios such as this one. Instead of blaming yourself or the other person, accept that it happened and thankful God revealed to you what’s going on. Sometimes, we just can’t see the subtle, low vibrational changes occurring in our relationships. Cheating is the symptom of a bigger issue in the relationship. Instead of spending too much time in grief, anger and sadness, find the blessing in that pain. “Now I know – and I had a feeling all along. I have to exercise more trust in my own intuition, but it’s okay that I did not find out until today. I can now make a choice on whether this relationship is worth saving or if it’s not. I got to this point of looking at my relationship, so I need to know why it took me this long to see the signs. At least it’s not five yearsΒ laterΒ and now I can make some real life decisions with this new information.”
Any of the above ten situations could have bounds of blessings in them, if only we choose to see them.Β Some things that happen, at face value, lookΒ dismal – but a newΒ perspective is what will transcend you to the next level ofΒ manifesting.Β You have the freedom to choose! Choose a higher vibrational rung to grasp each time, and you will be on your way to a truly abundant life.

Freedom Consciousness: Part Five – Freedom to Be Your Authentic Self

Image courtesy of Serge Bertasius Photography, published on 01 November 2013 Stock Image – image ID: 100214130, from http://www.freedigitalphotos.net
Your light wants to shine through, but your filter system is cluttered with debris. Debris of people pleasing, of being okay with being dissatisfied, of compromising. The debris gets caught up in your Authentic SelfΒ filter and is making it difficult for yourΒ Light to shine through.
When we are belittling, minimizing, downplaying, or oppressing ourΒ (or others’)Β life’s desires for practicality and familiarity, we are cluttering our filter. You want your Authentic Self filters (belief systems and actions) to be un-gunked as possible with debris that is not serving you. Your Light will always try to shine through, but help it out by releasing the beliefs that limit or bound you.
Are you free to be who you want to be? Are you allowing others to be who they want to be? What or whoΒ is dimming your inner Light?
We have to be gutsy in our journey to bliss. To be gutsy isΒ to sometimes be the unpopular voiceΒ in the room.Β We have to be our own advocate and the voice of the voiceless. We have to stay focused on that which we trulyΒ want, versus focusing on the worldly noises and distractions.
We are blessed toΒ be on life’s journey to fall in love with ourselves, others, and life itself. When we find ourselves notΒ at peace and unhappy, we need to see why we are choosingΒ a less vibrational match than what we truly want to be aligned to. Too many times we are surrendering our power to the external, which leads to ourΒ unfulfilled potential and untapped power. If we are relying on others to shape who we are or how to feel, we are simply going through life on someone else’s direction and not our own. We came to this planet to direct, guide, and steer our life – there is joy and everlasting peace in that freedom!
This is YOUR life!Β Stay grateful for what is making you happy and aligned. Stay present and remember to set your intentions (write, say, and believe) to what you’d like more of in your life.
If you are not investing a few minutes each day in joyously imagining, visioning, writing about how your Authentic Self, you’re missing out, my dear ones. Aren’t you worth it? Your Authentic Self craves your attention and direction.
Imagine a life where you wake up, and youΒ say what’s on yourΒ mind, feel how you want to feel,Β do what you want to do, and beΒ what you want to be. Now, think about things that keep you from shining yourΒ inner Light brightly. Are there people who cause you to shrink or retract your Authentic Self? If so, imagine who you would become without those things or people who are not in alignment with your freedom flow. This is how you can assess whether or not people or situations needΒ to manifest into something that IS in alignment with who you really are and what you’re about.
So many times, we are reacting to external circumstances, not ever taking time to set intentions for what is to unfold. That constant reaction inhibits us from being free to be ourΒ Authentic Selves.
WeΒ tryΒ to change external situations to align with internal desires – and we’re hurt when nothing we want manifests or lasts.Β Your power is in the InternalΒ First, the External will follow.
There’s no room inΒ this humanΒ life experienceΒ for incessant people pleasing or niceties, especially if it’s compromising your Authentic Self. You want don’t feel like doing something? Don’t. You want to cut all your hair off or grow it long? Do it. You want to be creative and wouldn’t mind being paid to be, be it. You want to be more spiritual or you’re not feeling too enlightened, let it all hang out. Do you. Be Authentic, and the rest will surely follow.
